MISSION STATEMENT OF THE CUYAHOGA AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY
Hams Who Serve
It shall be our purpose to further amateur radio by serving the public; to promote technical knowledge, fraternalism, and individual operating proficiency; and to advance the general interest and welfare of amateur radio in the community. CARS has more than one hundred Thirty licensed hams, both young and old, who reflect a genuine willingness to serve their community through amateur radio operations.
To promote licensing of more hams, CARS also conducts bi-monthly VE sessions at the Independence Town Hall, centrally located in northeast Ohio. The sessions have drawn applicants from throughout the state. The experienced VE team, lead by Gary Dewey - NI8Z, has helped license over 210 hams in just the last four years in a courteous, and professionally conducted testing environment. Monthly meetings have included topics such as:
In June, July & August, CARS moves our meeting location to the Brecksville Metro Park Reservation to promote a picnic like atmosphere. Members grill hotdogs and hamburgers at the pre-meeting cookout. The large field next to the meeting shelter can be used to demonstrate portable field operations and antenna design.
CARS also holds an annual Christmas Party with food and prizes in place of the December meeting.
